MARINE BIOLOGIST & PHOTOGRAPHER

Hi! Welcome to my page, my name is Valerie and I’m a marine biologist, having finished my PhD in 2025 at James Cook University. My research has focused mainly on coral bleaching thermal dynamics, but my broader work spans ecology and species distribution of various study species (e.g., whale sharks and sea cucumbers), as well as remote sensing of both shallow reef and deep sea environments.

While science has been my primary field, photography has always been my passion and creative outlet, and my goal is to bridge these two worlds in a meaningful way. Growing up surrounded by nature, my camera became a tool for discovery and a way to share the wonder I felt.
